For over 20 years, the structure, located at the Water Side area of the
commercial city, was abandoned and turned to homes for all manner of
human beings who just covered the doors and windows.
Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has renewed government’s interest in the place, with a view to make it a viable, functional five star hotel.
Consequently, the government has directed all the illegal occupants to
vacate the place, saying relevant government agencies would soon embark
on work there.
The state government noted with sadness
that “over the years, all manner of miscreants and illegal
squatters have turned the place to their abode.”
A statement by the governor’s spokesman, Mr. Godwin Adindu, said
aside from Enyimba Hotel, other abandoned projects in Aba metropolis
would also be rehabilitated.
The statement expressed regret that the hotel complex, located on the
shores of Aba waterside and abandoned for over two decades , had been
taken over by illegal squatters and miscreants.
“As part of the policy on Aba urban renewal, the state government will be embarking on a massive infrastructure rehabilitation of government buildings and all abandoned projects in the Aba metropolis.”
“Government is aware that over the years, illegal squatters and miscreants have turned the place to their abode.
“Government is therefore serving notices to all the illegal occupants in the building to vacate the place within one week, as the relevant government agencies are ready to commence a massive rehabilitation on the building.
Government is also using the opportunity to direct all illegal squatters in all government buildings or premises in the state to quickly vacate the places before the arrival of the government functionaries who have been mandated to commence work on such structures.”
Somehow, with the rehabilitation going round the entire city, it seems like the Change the Aba People need is here.
After being patient for decades for good turn around and an even development in the state, the Enyimba city which serves and the business heart of the state has received a little touch of care.
Keeping fingers crossed and assist in any means possible will be the best option for the aba man.
