Human rights lawyer, Ebun-OIu Adegboruwa tells <strong style="box-sizing: border-box;">BAYO AKINLOYE</strong> that the action of the Independent National Electoral Commission of issuing Certificate of Return to Uchechukwu Ogah is illegal and can cause chaos</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
<strong style="box-sizing: border-box;"><em style="box-sizing: border-box;">Despite </em></strong><strong style="box-sizing: border-box;"><em style="box-sizing: border-box;">a stay of execution filed by Governor Ikpeazu of Abia State against Justice Okezie Abang’s ruling, the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday issued a Certificate of Return to Sampson Ogah, a runner-up to Ikpeazu in the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship primary in the state. What is your view on this?</em></strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
There is a grand conspiracy laced with a hidden agenda by the ruling All Progressives Congress to entrench a one-party state in Nigeria and this is with the consent of the President (Muhammadu Buhari) whose body language has reflected a preference for dictatorship. The president is fighting the National Assembly and the judiciary; virtually, all the two organs of government are to be silenced and muzzled. In law, once Governor Ikezie Ikpeazu has filed an appeal to the Court of Appeal, followed with a stay of execution of the judgment (handed down by Justice Abang) no authority in Nigeria is entitled to enforce that judgment until that application has been decided.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
And this is a principle of law that the president himself benefitted from recently. In the case that was challenging his eligibility to contest as president because he did not have WAEC (West African Examination Council) certificate. The president told his lawyer to file a preliminary objection but Justice Adeniyi Ademola dismissed that objection and the president recruited 13 Senior Advocates of Nigeria to file an appeal against that ruling of the court. While they filed that appeal, they also applied for stay of proceedings before the High Court and immediately the judge of the High Court suspended his proceedings to allow the president to exercise his right of appeal. Therefore, if it is possible for the president to benefit from the rule of law, if it is possible for the president to exercise his right to appeal, why would the (federal) government through INEC not allow Ikpeazu to exercise the same right to appeal?</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
<strong style="box-sizing: border-box;"><em style="box-sizing: border-box;">Could it be that the court papers were not served on INEC and Ogah?</em></strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
The papers were served. I can confirm that to you that they (INEC and Ogah) had been served.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
<strong style="box-sizing: border-box;"><em style="box-sizing: border-box;">But why would INEC do what it ought not to do by issuing a Certificate of Return to Ogah?</em></strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
Most of the people in INEC are appointees of the president. They are his in-laws, relatives and adoptive children – daughters and sons. Some of them are alleged to be card-carrying members of the ruling APC. Thus, INEC as we have it now is not an independent entity. The proper name of INEC is ‘Inconclusive National Electoral Commission.’ That is the name we have given to INEC. Under Buhari, no election conducted by INEC has ever been conclusive – right from Kogi State to Bayelsa and Rivers all the elections have never been conclusive. The INEC is doing the bidding of the president, who has a hidden agenda to impose a one-party state on Nigeria. Therefore, I am calling on all Nigerians so that we do not descend into a state of anarchy. The governor of Abia State is still the governor of the state until he has exercised his right to appeal up to the Supreme Court. There is no reason to force him out of office since he has decided to appeal against the judgment.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
<strong style="box-sizing: border-box;"><em style="box-sizing: border-box;">Are you saying what INEC did is illegal?</em></strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
It is an affront against the rule of law. It is a challenge against the integrity of the court system. It is a total invitation to anarchy because the sitting governor will be resisting (any unlawful attempt to unseat him) while Ogah will be insisting that he should be sworn in. and the caveat we have here is that the Chief Judge of Abia State will not go ahead against the application of stay of execution not to swear in Ogah; that is the caveat. I do not think the chief judge will do. I am therefore calling on the chief judge to refuse to be drawn into this impunity. The certificate purportedly issued to Ogah is illegal and cannot stand in law. Ogah cannot be sworn in based on that certificate while there is an appeal against the judgment.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
<strong style="box-sizing: border-box;"><em style="box-sizing: border-box;">It was reported that the judge had absconded?</em></strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
Why would he not abscond? He does not need to abscond; once they served him with a notice of appeal and the motion for stay of execution, nobody can force the chief judge to swear in Ogah. But I think this (situation) portends grave danger for our nation, especially as the president is revealing day by day that he is not a democrat. He still wants to be ruling us as he did during his 1984 military junta. We are in a democracy and we appeal to the president to follow the rule of law.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
<strong style="box-sizing: border-box;"><em style="box-sizing: border-box;">But why are you so convinced this development is an APC-inspired conspiracy when Ogah is a PDP member?</em></strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
There is a plot, which we have uncovered, to swear in Ogah and immediately get him to defect to the APC. Remember that there is a current dispute of factionalisation in the PDP involving Modu Sheriff on the one hand, and Ahmed Makarfi on the other. So, the grand plan is to swear in Ogah and get him to defect to the APC using the current factionalisation in the PDP as a reason for that defection. Then, effectively, the APC will then take over Abia State and eventually get all the members of the Abia House of Assembly to also defect to the ruling APC. That is the grand plan.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
<strong style="box-sizing: border-box;"><em style="box-sizing: border-box;">Is the country now faced with a plan of the APC to enforce a one-party state?</em></strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
I believe that is their agenda. The current anti-corruption war is targeted at 2019; it is meant to put a tag on those who are perceived to be likely opponents in the future elections and then put a corruption tag on them; that is why you see that the (anti-corruption) war has no end. Every day new facts will emerge until 2019 and give a dog bad name and hang it, to the extent that there will be nobody who will be credible enough to stand in opposition against all the candidates of the APC.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
<strong style="box-sizing: border-box;"><em style="box-sizing: border-box;">Is anything the lawmakers both at the state and federal levels can do about this situation?</em></strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
I think the matter at hand now is purely for the court. I think that the court that gave the judgment has a duty to pronounce on the application for stay of execution whether he will grant it or he will refuse it. This confusion can only be cleared by the same court that granted the judgment. Once an appeal has been filed and a motion of execution has been filed before a court, that court has to determine it – whether to grant it or to refuse it. As things stand now under the constitution, the Abia State House of Assembly has no role to play because they are not the ones that initiated the removal of the governor.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
<strong style="box-sizing: border-box;"><em style="box-sizing: border-box;">Does the attorney-general of the federation have a role to play in this matter?</em></strong></div>
<div style="background-color: white; box-sizing: border-box; color: #222222; font-family: Poppins, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 26px; margin-bottom: 26px; text-align: justify;">
The attorney-general of the federation also as the minister of justice has a duty to direct INEC not to issue a certificate of return once appeal has been filed and motion for stay of execution has been filed. The attorney-general is the chief law officer of this nation but I regret to say that this current attorney-general with all due respect to him has been playing the role of the APC’s legal adviser –which shouldn’t have been so.</div>

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has
 set October 2015 as the deadline for the payment of all salaries and
pension arrears of workers and pensioners in the state.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He has also directed the setting up of a
seven-man committee to manage the disbursement of the N14.152bn Federal
Government bailout fund for the payment of salary and pension arrears in
 the state.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A statement by the Senior Special Adviser
 to the Governor on Public Communications, Mr. Sam Hart, said the
Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Eme Okoro, had been mandated to
inaugurate the committee on Monday (today).</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
The
 committee, according to the statement, is to be made up of the
representatives of the Head of Service of Abia State, Chairman of
Nigeria Labour Congress, Abia State Council; and Chairman, Trade Union
Congress, Abia State Council.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Others are the state’s auditor general or
 his nominee; accountant general or his representative; the statistician
 general and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic Affairs.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The statement said, “The governor has
given a commitment that by Friday, October 30, 2015, all outstanding
arrears would have been offset. This is, therefore, a call to all
concerned to support the governor in this noble quest to rid the system
of all unscrupulous elements who collude to defraud the system.”</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
According to the statement, the committee
 is to determine the following: the exact amount owed public servants in
 the state, the actual duration of backlogs owed workers in the state as
 well as determine any other issue pertaining to owed salary arrears in
the state.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

The statement, however, said that the
bailout fund had yet to be accessed but assured it would likely be

<div style="text-align: justify;">
It said, “It is pertinent to point out
that the bailout fund has yet to arrive the state. Information available
 is that the money has been released to the designated Abia State

 is credited as cash.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“The Ikpeazu administration is committed
to using the bailout fund for the purpose of payment of salary backlogs.
 But only genuine salary backlogs owed Abia State workers will be paid
at the end of the exercise.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
“The bailout fund is not free money. It

BEING A RELEASE ISSUED BY THE ALL PROGRESSIVES GRAND ALLIANCE(APGA)
TODAY,THE 3RD DAY OF AUGUST,2015 DURING A PRESS CONFERENCE HELD IN
UMUAHIA IN RESPONSE TO THE ARSON UNLEASHED AT INEC OFFICE IN OBINGWA
L.G.A OF ABIA STATE ON SUNDAY, 2ND AUGUST, 2015.<br />
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Abia State, received with
 shock and utmost disappointment the news that INEC Office in Obingwa
L.G.A has been set ablaze by political hoodlums suspected to be working
for the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) and Abia State Government.<br />
We are <span id="more-1375"></span>embarrassed that this criminal act
 of desperation is coming just few days after the Governorship Election
Tribunal sitting In Umuahia ruled in favour of APGA and directed that
materials used in Obingwa and two other LGAs be brought to the Tribunal
premises for inspection as earlier requested by APGA, it is therefore
very clear that the enemies of Abia who earlier failed woefully in their
 bid to stop APGA’s Governorship Petition from entering trial stage have
 now increased their anti-democratic acts of violence as the last resort
 to achieving the impossible.<br />
Recall that the PDP acted similar movie during the election when they
 set INEC office ablaze in Isiala Ngwa South LGA after discovering that
the APGA House of Assembly candidate for the election Mr. Levi Atulegwu
was cruising to victory against the PDP candidate, this led to the
suspension of the election.<br />
It is indeed not a thing of surprise to APGA that the agents of PDP
and Abia State Government who are notorious in acts of violence and
anti-people brigandage finally executed this criminal act having
initially prevented APGA Lawyers and Forensic Experts from inspecting
those Obingwa materials which they feared would expose their electoral
crimes and sink them permanently.<br />

<br />
Just a few days ago a deadly act of violence that led to the death of
 innocent police officer was unleashed at the Guest House of our Leader
Dr. Alex Otti and even before the police could carry out their
investigation, the Abia State Government in their suspicious panic
hurriedly but disgracefully dismissed the said attack, just the way they
 have fraudulently but childishly tried to link APGA to this latest
Obingwa madness through their misleading report on BCA; that is how
petty and pitiable the Abia State Government and PDP have become.<br />

From using machetes and coffins to threaten innocent voters to
shooting and snatching during the election, from burning down of INEC
Office in Isiala Ngwa South to invasion of INEC office in Umuahia, from
the 200million Dollar ADB loan to the illegal 30 billion naira loan,
from begging Dr. Alex Otti to withdraw his case at the Tribunal to
attack on his Lawyers and Forensic Experts, and from the assassination
attempt in Abuja to the burning down of INEC Office in Obingwa, we are
forced to ask, how dangerously desperate can PDP and Abia State
Government be?<br />

As we condemn this latest infamy of futility from the enemies of
Abia, we call on the Federal Government, INEC,and the necessary Security
 Agencies to pay special attention to Abia State and take very decisive
measures to ensure that justice is not raped, and that the enemies of
democracy will not ignorantly and carelessly bring avoidable anarchy to
our state through these numerous provocative acts of cruelty and
criminality.<br />

To Abia State Government and the PDP we say, pushing your luck beyond
 and acceptable level is akin to challenging your God, and since you
cannot challenge your God and survive we the peace loving people of APGA
 and Abia State urge you to halt your numerous acts of visionlessness
and viciousness that subject Abia to public ridicule and endanger all
that the founding fathers of Abia labored to achieve.<br />

A stich in time saves nine!<br />

The burning down of INEC office Obingwa seems not to be a surprise to
 many, because they believe it was part of the game play of the ruling
party PDP. But what is a concern to some PDP members is that their party
 is now so predictable.<br />

Speaking with one APGA stalwart Henry Agu from Obingwa he said, “We knew they were up to something, because <span id="more-1338"></span>the
 rumour of them wanting to burn down INEC office in Obingwa was
everywhere since the time the tribunal ordered that the election
materials be moved to Umuahia, so when it happened i laughed because
they have finally nailed their own coffin. PDP are fools, they have
failed to realize that Nigeria have changed, Buhari have changed Nigeria
 and even tribunals have changed, it is not business usual and they will
 see how the tide will turn against them “. Henry concluded.<br />
<br />
<br />
Another APGA stalwart who does not want his name mentioned had this to
say,” AFN as you guys reported last week that PDP lawyer said they had a
 bad case, that is true. Their case is very bad, they rigged senselessly
 and foolishly, that’s why they are fighting hard to cover their tracks,
 but unfortunately they cant cover their tracks no matter how hard they
try. We have so many evidence, so if they like they cant burn down all
the INEC offices in Abia state, they must leave Abia state government
house because God has brought change to Abia “<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Penultimate Friday, Dr. Alex Otti, the governorship candidate of the
All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in the Abia State election, raised
 the alarm that an attempt was made on his life. This generated so much
heat in the state with the Abia State Government taking him on and
pooh-poohing the allegation.
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>In this interview with <strong>JIDE AJANI, EDITOR </strong> and <strong>OLALEKAN BILESANMI</strong>,
 Dr. Otti laments that he is at a loss as to the interest of the state
government in the matter, especially since he did not point any accusing
 finger at anybody.</em><span id="more-1297"></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>According to him, the police are aware of what happened with the
attendant killing of a police guard on duty at the residence where the
attackers struck. In fact, he showed photographs of the lifeless body of
 the policeman in a pool of blood. He was shot in the head.In the
photographs, you could see blood on the floor of the house – the images
are too gory to be reproduced here. </em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<em>  And because of on-going investigations by the police, the
identity of the dead is still being kept under wraps. But the interview
as not all about the assassination attempt. He also speaks about the
parlous state of finances of the Abia and why the people of the state
should not allow their future and those of generations unborn, to be
mortgaged. Excerpts:</em><strong> Last week, there was a story about an attempted assassination on your life. What really happened?</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had been away in the U.S.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I returned to the country last (penultimate) Saturday and I went to Abuja.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was in Abuja from that  Monday  till the early hours of  Thursday.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
From there I went to Umuahia  on Friday.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As early as 3.30/4am  that  Friday, the cook in the residence where I
 stay in Abuja called to alert my personal assistant that there were
some unknown gun men who scaled the fence from the back of the house and
 entered into the premises.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He said they shot one of the police guards in the compound, and he died instantly.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Thereafter, he said they went straight to my own apartment, ransacked everywhere and turned the place upside down.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Of course, I was not there.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He said they then went to the other wing of the duplex which also has an office and ransacked it too.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>Did they steal or cart away anything?</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not even a pin was taken.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>Nothing at all?</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Nothing! So, it was very clear to me that they were hired assassins.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What I did was to call a press conference mid-way during the recess
at the tribunal sitting in Umuahia – that was during the one hour break
of the tribunal so I quickly used the opportunity to address the press,
that same  Friday, July 24.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I alerted the general public that some people made an attempt but thank God I was not available to be killed.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I also disclosed that a policeman was murdered in cold blood – I was
very shocked first and foremost that someone was killed. It was one of
the guards that had been with me all week.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>Did you point accusing fingers while you did the briefing?</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A day later,  Saturday, in the evening, I saw an online report that
the governor had issued a press statement.    To my consternation, the
statement said that what happened in Abuja was a robbery event; that
they had checked and it didn’t happen in my place but another compound
and that the person that was killed was not attached to me.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>The apartment you were referring to, is it rented or your private property?</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The place was given to me by a friend. The duplex used to be his own
guest house before he went abroad. So, in the last two years, the place
has been vacant. Since I left the bank around November last year, he
just called me and said he gave me one of the wings so that anytime I am
 coming to Abuja I could stay there instead of staying in hotels.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
One of the curious things about the statement from the government of
Abia State – mind you I did not mention any name nor did I point any
accusing fingers just as I was very careful not to give out too much
personal information – was that the government gave the name of the
place where the incident happened.    The statement said it was Nestoil
but in my press statement, I didn’t mention that because the police was
still investigating and I didn’t think it was proper. Even in the press
interview, I was asked if I suspected anybody and I said I didn’t
suspect anybody because I believe that the police will delve into the
matter thoroughly and they will come up with the culprits and whoever
sent them. That was my comment and it is still there in the public
domain. You can go and check.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>With your petition against the incumbent governor still on at
 the tribunal and your press briefing during the break could have
suggested that ….?</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Look, I was surprised to read what they were saying, that I was whipping up sentiment….</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>That’s exactly the point I was trying to make?</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Somebody was killed.    A life was lost. Sentiments?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They said I wanted to give an impression that Abia State was unsafe
in order to actualize my desire to move the tribunal sitting from
Umuahia to Abuja. And I wondered what sense that makes. The attack was
in Abuja. If I wanted the sitting to be moved to Abuja I should not be
claiming that there was an attack in Abuja.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think the government statement was hurriedly put together and they
didn’t really spare a thought for it, otherwise, it does not make sense.
 I was amazed that somebody of my calibre would be attacked and the
sympathy word I would get from my governor is that I was lying.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He concluded his investigation 24 hours after the event happened.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He arrogated to himself the role of the policemen investigating the
case, the Inspector General of Police, the spokesperson of the force and
 even the commissioner of police in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. I
 was very, very shocked that they could be making such statement.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Again yesterday (Thursday), they reported that the governor said I
was raising false alarm. But, it didn’t matter that a soul was lost. A
bread winner, a father!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<strong>What stage is the police investigation now?</strong></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They have taken all the statements and samples, because there were
quite a lot of blood stains in the place. They are investigating. I
think it was assigned to experts, the CID. So, with the way they are
going, I believe they are going to be able to come up with some form of
information very soon.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
There was another thing that shocked me, that was  on Tuesday. The
state chairman of the party, that is PDP, took a page in a national
daily and titled it, “Exposed, the antics of a drowning man”.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was really shocked. He said in the publication that he had gone
round all the police stations in Abuja between  Friday  and  Tuesday,
and no one confirmed to him that such a thing happened and reported,
that it was not true; that if it was true, I would have gone to the
police. This is a lawyer and as such, he should know better.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A matter that obviously has nothing to do with him, going to the
police station, he thinks they will just volunteer information to him? I
 am quite disappointed that he would make that kind of statement. And
indeed he made quite a lot of disparaging remarks. I have chosen not to
respond to him. I thought it was too desperate an attempt. I believe
that the way they have meddled into this matter is a sign of many things
 the police would have to unravel.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have no doubt that the I.G would invite them, at least, to ask them
 questions, how did they know the venue of the attack?    How could they
 say the police man was not shot? Could they make statement and credit
it to the police?    When a thing like this happens, it is either armed
robbery, kidnapping or assassination. And they cannot rule out anyone
until they finish their investigation. I think they were too jumpy.
There is a whole lot they may be able to help the police with. Even
though I understand the governor has immunity but that does not stop the
 police from inviting him if he has information to give them. I think
they have spoken enough and the police should wade in and find out what
else they know that they have not told us.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For over 20 years, the structure, located at the Water Side area of the
commercial city, was abandoned and turned to homes for all manner of
human beings who just covered the doors and windows.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has renewed government’s interest in the place, with a view to make it a viable, functional five star hotel. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Consequently, the government has directed all the illegal occupants to
vacate the place, saying relevant government agencies would soon embark
on work there.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: black;">The state government noted with sadness
that<i> <b>“over the years, all manner of miscreants and illegal
squatters  have turned the place to their abode.”</b></i></span> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A statement by the governor’s spokesman, Mr. Godwin Adindu, said
aside from Enyimba Hotel, other abandoned projects in Aba metropolis
would also be rehabilitated.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The statement expressed regret that the hotel complex, located on the
 shores of Aba waterside and abandoned for over two decades , had been
taken over by illegal squatters and miscreants.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<i><b>“As part of the policy on Aba urban renewal, the state government
will be embarking on a massive infrastructure rehabilitation of
government buildings and all abandoned projects in the Aba metropolis.”</b></i><br />
<i><b> “Government is aware that over the years, illegal squatters and miscreants have turned the place to their abode.</b></i></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<i><b><span style="color: black;">“Government
 is therefore serving notices to all the  illegal occupants in the
building to vacate the place within one week, as the relevant government
 agencies are ready to commence a massive rehabilitation on the
building.</span></b></i>
<br />
<i><b>
</b></i>
<br />
<div>
<i><b><span style="color: black;">Government
 is also using the opportunity to direct all illegal squatters in all
government buildings or premises in the state to quickly vacate the
places before the arrival of the government functionaries who have been
mandated to commence work on such structures.”</span></b></i></div>
</blockquote>
