Nigerian teenager, Georgia Oboh, has won the just concluded 2015
U.S. Kids Golf Teen World Championship, which held at the Mid Pines Inn
and Golf Club, North Carolina, United States.
Oboh, 14, a student of golf academy in Manchester, United Kingdom
(U.K.), played a fantastic 69 gross in the final round of the event to
win the championship.
Oboh grossed 76 over 18 holes on the first day and 78 on the second day. She grossed 69 on the first day.
The 54 holes event teed off on Thursday July 23, and ended Saturday July 25.
Oboh, who plays handicap 1 and aspiring to become a professional golfer, is a junior member of the lkoyi Golf Club, Lagos.
Meanwhile, President of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF), Dr. Peter
Deshi, and other board members have commended Oboh for making Nigeria
proud.
The president, who also expressed satisfaction at the level of growth
achieved so far in junior golf development in Nigeria, noted that
concerted efforts would be made to sustain the tempo.
“Last year, Anita Uwadia won a gold in an international tournament
and Team Nigeria, which also had Anita, Diana Osmond, Tokunbo Pedro and
Sunday Yusuf won silver at the Africa Youth Games in Botswana.
“Anita Uwadia again won the African Shield at the British Junior Open Championship in July. So, the game is growing,” he said.
Equally, the NGF Director of Youths Development, Emy Ekong, praised
the efforts of Oboh’s parents for giving her the opportunity to play
golf as NGF would not renege on its junior golf development programme.
Ekong also used the opportunity to commend Ikoyi Golf Club Ladies’
Section, Dr Nike Marino, among others for their supports and creating
the enabling environment for Oboh and other children to development in
golf.
